Troubleshooting

Start from the sender page: each device's status is green when it gets through, amber while it is on its way, and red with what to fix.

The sender page says it is waiting for the computer

The browser with the Remote Visio extension is not running on the remote computer, or its hidden page has not come back yet. Through your remote desktop, check that the browser is open there (on Windows and Linux a window must stay open: the extension runs only while the browser does) and that the extension's button lists your device under Paired devices. The page connects by itself within a few seconds once the computer is back.

The page loads but stays on "Connecting..."

Both sides reached the relay, but the audio connection between them does not get through. A network that drops UDP (a VPN, a firewall, Wi-Fi client isolation) is the usual cause, and two devices with no direct path between them cannot connect yet: Remote Visio has no TURN relay. To see what happened, open the sender page with ?debug=1 (or tap Debug log at the bottom), press Start, wait 15 seconds and tap Copy, then send us the log.

The meeting hears nothing

Check in turn: the sender page is started, its microphone button is not red, and its meter moves when you talk; the meeting uses Remote Visio Microphone in its audio settings; the site is not listed as Blocked in the extension's button (remove it and it asks again); the meeting page was reloaded after the extension was installed or updated; and the meeting runs in a Chromium browser, not in the Zoom or Teams app, Safari or Firefox.

Remote Visio's devices are missing from the meeting's lists

The extension is not in this browser profile (check the extensions page in a window of the profile the meeting runs in), the page was open before the extension was installed (reload it), the window is private (turn on Allow in Incognito in the extension's details), or Offer Remote Visio's devices to websites is off in the extension's button.

I hear the meeting twice, or my own voice

Your remote desktop tool still forwards sound. Turn sound off in its settings: Remote Visio carries the meeting's sound now. See Fix echo and double audio.

People in the meeting hear an echo

The meeting's sound plays from your speakers and gets back into your microphone. Keep the sender page's speaker on (that turns your browser's echo cancellation on) and the remote tool's audio off, or wear headphones.

I hear nothing from the meeting

The sender page's speaker button must not be red. If its status says no meeting uses Remote Visio Speaker yet, choose Remote Visio Speaker in the meeting's settings. If it says Playing the meeting's sound, check the speaker's slider and your device's volume (on iPhone and iPad, the volume buttons).

The sender page does not know my computer any more

Pairings live in the browser you paired from: another browser, a private window, cleared site data, or a device not used for 60 days (the computer removes it) all mean pairing again, from Pair a device in the extension's button. Safari may also forget a page's data after a week without opening it. On the computer, a browser profile reset or the extension loaded under another ID starts without pairings too.

The page says the computer is in use by another device

One paired device sends at a time. Press Stop on the other device, or use Take over on this one; the device that was sending is told why it stopped.

A managed browser forbids the extension or its connections

If your organization manages the browser, ask them to allow this extension, ID bhijcffjnmjijifjiaeibbogmbohdmon (its Chrome Web Store page is linked from the extension page). A browser policy that forbids direct WebRTC connections (WebRtcIPHandling) blocks the devices too; only the administrator can change it.

Choppy audio

Packets are lost between your device and the remote computer. A better network on the sending side helps most: Wi-Fi close to the router, or a cable. The sender page's Debug log shows the path the connection took and the packets received and lost.

System requirements

  • The remote computer. A Mac or PC (macOS, Windows, Linux or ChromeOS) running Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi or Opera, version 116 or later, with the Remote Visio extension. Your meetings run in that browser. Tested on macOS; on Windows and Linux, keep a browser window open there.

  • The device in front of you. Any modern browser with a microphone, and a camera if you want to send video. Nothing to install.

  • Internet on both sides. Your device and the extension meet through Remote Visio's relay, then the audio and video go directly between them when the network allows.

  • Your remote desktop tool. Parsec, AnyDesk, TeamViewer, Screen Sharing, Jump Desktop or another one, for the screen, keyboard and mouse.

Useful places

The extension's button, on the remote computer
The state of the camera, microphone and speaker, the site using each, the sites you allowed, and your paired devices with Remove next to each.
The sender page's Debug log
The Debug log link at the bottom of remotevisio.com/send (or ?debug=1 in its address): every step of the connection, with Copy. It leaves the page only if you send it to us.
Computers, on the sender page
The computers you paired, whether each is online, and Forget. To pair again, click Pair a device in the extension's button on the computer.
Remove
Remove the extension from the browser's extensions page: that deletes its settings and pairings. On your device, Forget the computer on the sender page, or clear the site data of relay.remotevisio.com.

Remote Visio is free software under the GNU AGPL-3.0.
