Terms of Use

Last updated:

These terms apply to the website remotevisio.com and to the Remote Visio software and services: the browser extension published in the Chrome Web Store as “Remote Visio Camera”, the sending web page at relay.remotevisio.com (which remotevisio.com/send leads to), and the relay service behind it. Remote Visio is published by Hykops (“we”, “us”). By using the website, or the copies and services we provide (the extension we publish, the sender page and the relay we run, our support), you accept these terms. Your right to run, study, change and share the software itself comes from its license, the AGPL-3.0, and does not depend on accepting these terms.

1. The software license

Remote Visio is free software. It is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). It was originally written by Shu Chunhui (github.com/hueshu/relaymic). Hykops publishes the browser extension and runs the sender page and the relay at relay.remotevisio.com, from the source code public at github.com/ohayak/relaymic.

The AGPL-3.0 governs your rights to use, copy, modify and share the software. Nothing in these terms takes away any right the AGPL-3.0 gives you, and where these terms and the AGPL-3.0 disagree about the software, the AGPL-3.0 wins. In short, the license lets you run the software for any purpose, study and change it, and share it, as long as you pass on the same freedoms. If you modify Remote Visio and let other people use your version over a network, you must offer them the source code of your version.

The software is free of charge. There is no account, no subscription and no in-app purchase.

2. Using Remote Visio responsibly

You are responsible for how you use Remote Visio. In particular, you are responsible for:

  • running it only on computers and devices you own or are allowed to use, within your organization’s rules for its computers, browsers and networks;
  • respecting the laws that apply to you and to the people you talk to, including laws on recording, interception and the consent of participants in a call or meeting;
  • respecting the terms of the meeting services you use it with (for example Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom), and of your remote desktop tool;
  • keeping your pairings to devices you trust: a paired device can send its microphone and camera to your computer and hear what meeting pages play into Remote Visio Speaker. Approve a pairing only when you started it yourself, and remove a device you no longer use from the extension’s button;
  • using the relay only to connect your own devices with Remote Visio: not to send it other traffic, probe it, overload it, or interfere with other people’s connections;
  • never using it to listen to, watch or record anyone without their knowledge, or for any unlawful purpose.

Remote Visio is not designed for emergency calls, medical, safety-critical or life-support uses. Do not rely on it where a dropped or delayed connection could cause harm.

3. No warranty, and the relay’s availability

Remote Visio is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, as also stated in sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0. Its sound and picture depend on your networks, your devices, your browsers and third-party services we do not control. We do not promise that it will work with every meeting service, browser, remote desktop tool or network, that it will be free of errors, or that it will always be available.

The relay and the sender page are services we run at no charge. We do not guarantee their availability: we may limit, suspend or change them, for example to protect them from abuse, to update them, or if running them stops being possible. Because the software is free, you can also run the sender page and the relay yourself from the source code, independently of ours.

The same applies to this website: we try to keep its information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee it.

4. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hykops, Shu Chunhui and the other contributors to Remote Visio are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, business or goodwill, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website, the software or the relay, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all the rights that the mandatory consumer law of your country gives you.

5. Third-party services

Remote Visio works alongside services that belong to other companies, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not by ours. These include:

  • the meeting services you use in your browser (such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom);
  • your remote desktop tool (such as Parsec, AnyDesk, TeamViewer, Screen Sharing or Chrome Remote Desktop);
  • the Chrome Web Store and your Chromium browser, which distribute and run the extension;
  • Cloudflare, which hosts this website, the sender page and the relay;
  • the public STUN servers of Google, Cloudflare and Xiaomi used to set up connections;
  • GitHub, which hosts the source code.

We are not responsible for these services, their availability or their changes. Our Privacy Policy explains what each of them can see.

6. Trademarks

Remote Visio’s name and logo identify this project. The AGPL-3.0 grants rights to the code; it does not give permission to use the Remote Visio name or logo in a way that suggests a modified version, product or service comes from us or is endorsed by us.

Apple, Mac, macOS and FaceTime are trademarks of Apple Inc. Google, Google Meet, Chrome and Chrome Web Store are trademarks of Google LLC. Microsoft, Microsoft Teams, Windows and Edge are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Zoom is a trademark of Zoom Communications, Inc. All other product and company names are trademarks of their respective owners. They are used on this website only to describe compatibility. Remote Visio and Hykops are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.

7. The website

You may browse and link to this website. Do not try to disrupt it, overload it, or get unauthorized access to it or to the systems behind it. Its use of cookies is described in our Cookie Policy. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

8. Changes

We may update these terms, for example when the software, the services or the law change. When we do, we update the date at the top of this page, and if a change is significant we say so clearly on this page. Continuing to use the website or our services after a change means you accept the updated terms. Changes never reduce the rights the AGPL-3.0 already gave you for a version you received.

9. Your rights and these terms

If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, or your right to go to its courts.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
